Cosmetic Dentistry & Dental Procedure Information
Dental care is something which one should never neglect. Brushing teeth everyday is a good sign of dental care but sometimes even good oral hygiene practices produces cavities and wear on the teeth. So to prevent nooks and cavities formation on your teeth, dental sealants are applied on the back of the teeth. Made up of plastic materials, dental sealants resist acids and bacteria and acts as a barrier for the destructive food particles. If applied in a proper way, sealants are almost 100% effective.
Dental sealants are applied on your teeth at a dentist’s chamber. First of all, teeth are cleaned properly and dried. Then the crannies and nooks on the back teeth are painted with a thin film of plastic fluid. After that the material is shined with a blue spectrum light to compel the plastic to heal. Some sealants brands which use chemicals do not use blue spectrum light.
When the sealant hardens, the back teeth are covered with a thin coating of plastic. Generally, a sealant can last for 5 years or more but periodic checking must be done in order to detect damage if any. If by chance sealant gets damaged then it is replaced by the new sealant materials.
